Joel Silbersher and Mick Turner are teaming up for a co-headline tour of the eastern states during January, following the release of their respective solo CDs on King Crab Records. Joel will be performing material from his album Greasy Lens, while Mick will be showcasing Moth as well as his film How To Paint For Fun And Profit. Icecream Hands release the single When The Show Is Over on January 13 out through Rubber Records. Taken from the album 'Broken Ufo', the single features 3 bonus live tracks Rain Hail Shine, Nipple and Picture Disc From The Benelux, with each track accompanied by the thoughts and ramblings of East Van Parks who produced their album.

Disaster Plan embark on their first ever tour of Adelaide in January to launch their new LP Self Help Guide. They perform with a six piece line-up featuring guests on viola, cello, piano and more on Friday January 17 @ Enigma w/ Grand Silent System and Special Patrol Group and Saturday January @ 18 The Grace Emily w/ the Silvermine Tapes.

Charles Foster Kane tour Melbourne with a handful of shows during late January 2003. They perform Thursday Jan 23 @ The Espy, Gershwin Room; Saturday Jan 25 @ The Public Bar w/ Sub Audible Hum and Sunday Jan 26 with an afternoon show at The Empress w/ Nemo and Evening Show at The Pony w/ Guernica. In other news the Brisbane outfit is putting the finishing touches on their second EP that they recorded with Magoo, with the five track EP planned for release March 2003 through Funk Folk Records/MRA entertainment.

The Rebel Astronauts and Purplene team up for two shows early into the new year. They play Friday January 3 @ Hopetoun Hotel, Surry Hills and Saturday January 4 @ Northern Star, Newcastle. Joining them at both shows will be Friendly Injun from Melbourne, featuring Leo Mullins formerly of 2 Litre Dolby.

Thursday, 19th

The John Butler Trio have released the new track Home Is Where The Heart Is, the first new recording since the release of their critically acclaimed album. The track will be included as a bonus track on a double live album Living, which will be released February 3 of next year on Jarrah Records. The independent record label is a self-owned joint venture with The Waifs. In the meantime the track is available as a MP3 download from www.johnbutlertrio.com

The Town Hall Hotel in North Melbourne is hosting a Christmas party on Friday December 20. Downstairs will feature the pop music of Treetops, Midstate Orange, the Rumours, the Ca$inos, Groundswell and Smallgoods. Upstairs showcases the rock DJ stylings of Ryan Egan (RRR), Mark Wilson (Jet), DJ Hunch (prettyboycrossover) and DJ Shags (Shags). Music starts at 10pm and entry is free.

The first annual Beatnik Babies & Mescaline Fashions concert is happening at on Saturday December 21 @ Good Morning Captain, 20 Johnston street in Collingwood. Kicking off 4pm in the afternoon, the day of music features Oneironaut, Slinkee, The Sound Platform, The Treetops, Bidston Moss, Cameron Moss, Simpleman and Season with DJs Mike Kean, Darren & Karl (Sound Platform) & Beth Proudley (Bidston Moss) spinning discs between sets. Entry is $10 or $7 for concession holders.

The Annual East Coast International Blues & Roots Music Festival is happening once again on the Easter weekend of April 17 till 20 at Byron Bay. Artists announced thus far are Ike Turner & The Kings Of Rhythm, Angélique Kidjo, Kasey Chambers, Michelle Shocked, Roy Ayers, Eric Burdon & The New Animals, Marva Wright & The BMW's, Terrance Simien, Harry Manx, Sam Carr's Delta Dukes, Tommy Emmanuel, Bob Brozman, Jeff Lang, Jimmie Vaughan, Shane MacGowan and The Popes, Blind Boys Of Alabama, G-Love & Special Sauce and Tuck & Pattie. Marie Wilson celebrates the festive season with a performance on Xmas eve, Tuesday December 24 at The Evelyn Hotel, Fitzroy. On the night she will perform classic Xmas carols, as well as material taken from her current release Studio Sessions, available only at the show and her website. Big Day Out organisers have announced the final line up for the 2003 event. Golden Rough, after a quiet period, return to the live arena for the first show with new drummer Raph Whittingham and last for the year on Saturday December 21. This special Christmas show will also serve to showcase new tunes, which will be released on a special limited edition EP for the Candle Records tour in early 2003.

Dappled Cities Fly head up to Brisbane this week for two shows in support of their debut CD single Be Engine / Sputnik. They launch said CD on Thursday Dec 19 @ The Alley w/ Turnpike and Shuriken, and then play an all ages show on Saturday Dec 21 @ Paddington Workers Club w/ The Boat People, Iron On, Zombie Crime Boss, The Analogs and Model Behaviour with doors opening 6:30pm.

Seraphs Coal due a double booking will now be playing their last ever show on January 18 in Melbourne. Currently in the midst of their farewell tour, they play their last ever shows in their hometown of Adelaide this weekend with two all ages shows on Fri Dec 20 and Sat Dec 21 at Enigma Bar. The Candle Records Concerts return for a fourth year in February 2003 with 7 acts performing all on the one big night in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. The Casanovas have signed with new British label, The Singles Society, for the European release of the singles Nasty and Too Cool in February. Both tracks come from the recently released debut Australian EP ...Keep It Hot out now on Rubber Records. To coincide with the single's release, The Casanovas will be playing a brief series of shows in the UK at the beginning of February, before joining The Datsuns for a five week tour of continental Europe. The band will then be playing further shows in the UK and then America. January will also see the Australian release of their next single Shake It with a brief tour to accompany the release.

Sandro have announced that after two more shows the Melbourne outfit will be calling it a day. They play their second last show on Friday January 10, 2003 @ The Pony Club, Little Collins St with Chinless Kings. Details for their final show are still being finalised.

The Porkers are heading out on the road in late December / early January for an east coast tour with special guests from New Zealand - The Offbeats. In other news the single Buds for Brains, featuring a remix of the title track by Scotty Scott from Oninc, and the compilation Version Excursion featuring the Porkers amongst other acts are out now and will able at their upcoming shows. The Drugs have released their new single Burger King as a free download from their website, with the b-sides and artwork also available for download. Coinciding with the single the band have a run of east coast dates during late December / early next year, including a NYE show with Pre-shrunk and Gerling at the Metro, Sydney. Big Day Out organisers release the Big Day Out 2003 compilation on December 13. The two disc compilation features 35 songs including previously unreleased material, with previews of the forthcoming albums from The Living End and Frenzal Rhomb. Rumanastone launch their debut album By Design over two nights at Hopetoun Hotel on Thursday December 12 and Friday December 13. The night also doubles as a showcase for their record label Chatterbox, with label mates Skulker and Laura Imbruglia supporting on both nights.

Homebake organisers have released the annual compilation album to this year's festivals, making it volume number six. Available as a specially priced double CD, it features forty tracks from bands on the bill. Among the tracks are several rarities including 'Downriver' by The Wilcannia Mob, 'Cold Hard Bitch' the only track available on CD from Jet and 'I Guess I Get Emotional Sometimes' from Paul Kelly that was previously only available as a download. Brindle launch their EP Classification on Friday December 20 @ The Healer, Fortitude Valley. Special guests will be Lancaster, Hunnicut, Polyvinyl and Bionique. The four track EP is released nationally on MRA through FunkFolk on December 9. A national tour in support of the EP is currently in the works and the band have also been included on the Big Day Out bill.

Disaster Plan launch their in new LP Self Help Guide in Sydney on Friday December 6 @ Hopetoun with special guests the Tucker B's from WA and fellow Melbourne lads Jet. Back in Melbourne their final two shows for the year are Friday Dec 13 @ Empress w/ Disappointments and Thursday Dec 19 @ Corner Hotel w/ Lisa Miller and Machine Translations. Then in January they are heading to SA for their first Adelaide show at the Enigma Bar on Friday January 17. The record is in-stores now out on Sensory Projects via Inertia.

Midnight Oil vocalist Peter Garrett after 25 years has decided to resign from the band to take up challenges outside of music. No word as to the future of the band, but it is known that Jim, Rob, Martin & Bones plan to continue making music together in another guise at some point down the track.

Operation Lovejoy is a benefit gig happening on Saturday December 21 @ The Zoo for Jeff Lovejoy a Brisbane musician, producer, engineer and co-owner of Brisbane’s Black Box Recording Studio. Money raised will go towards the expensive operation and rehabilitation needed to relieve him of a herniated invertebral disc. Performing will be The Cruel Three (Tex Perkins, James Cruikshank, Danny Rumour), Dave McCormack, Guy Webster & The Informants, Charles Foster Kane, Tylea & the Imaginary Music Score and DJ Fluent JB. Doors open 8:30pm and tickets at the door are $12/$10.

The Grand Silent System launch their debut album Gift Or A Weapon on Saturday December 7 @ Corner Hotel, with special guests Pigment and Oneironaut. While the album isn't in stores until the end of January 2003 those who purchase presale tickets will get receive a copy of the album on the night.

Architecture In Helsinki launch their debut single Like A Call on Friday December 6 @ The Rob Roy Hotel, with Qua, Jeremy Dower and DJ's T&A and Square Fox. The single out on Trifekta is available on CD and also as a limited edition 10" vinyl release with screen printed sleeves, blue coloured vinyl and limited to only 400 copies. The vinyl release features a remix of the title track by local electronic artist two4K, previously only available as a hidden track on the CD single, as well as the previously unreleased full length version of 'Sooner Than Soon' the band's collaboration with Qua.

Regurgitator after roughly a year long hiatus return to the live arena in late December / early January for a national tour. During the absence Quan has been in Europe whilst Ben and Peter have kept busy with The Stalkers. Joel Silbersher of Hoss, Trendils and God fame ventures up to Sydney this weekend to play two shows in support of his debut solo record entitled Greasy Lens. He plays Friday December 6 @ The Rose Of Australia and Saturday December 7 @ SHX, both shows will feature special guests Conway Savage and Penny Ikinger.
