Monday, 31st

Rocket Science play several shows this April before touring the UK with The Vines and The Music. They play Sydney on Friday April 4 @ Gaelic Club w/ 78 Saab and Riff Random. Then in Melbourne they play the front bar at The Esplanande, St Kilda over two nights for free on Saturday April 11 with Neon & Dashboard and Saturday April 12 with Hand's Of Tyme and Riff Random.

Ninetynine tour Adelaide and Sydney this April. They play Adelaide on Friday Apr 18 @ Action Park and Saturday Apr 19 @ Jade Moneky. Then Sydney on Friday Apr 25 @ Hopetoun Hotel, Surry Hills and Saturday Apr 26 @ The Spanish Club, Liverpool St, City.

Danny McDonald releases his new album Summer City in stores on Monday April 7 distributed through MGM. The album will also be released in Japan next week and the US in May. The album features 11 tracks and was written and produced by Danny over the Australian summer of 2002-03, at Birdland Studio's in Melbourne. Special guests on the album include Mickster (The Finkers, Crusaders, Pyramidiacs), Tim Mills (P76) and Geoff Barnes (P76, Jericho, Magneto). In support of the release Danny will embark on an extended Australian tour from April 4 till the end of June. Further details »

Powderfinger are nearing the completion of their new album with the mixing finished last week by US producer Brendan O'Brien in Atlanta. At this stage a July 2003 release date is expected.

The Breadmakers play their last show for a while if not forever on Sunday April 6 @ The Tote w/ Shutdown 66, The Heakawis, Capital City and Fez Perez. The reason it could be there last show is because lead vocalist Richard Whelan is heading off overseas to live for an indefinite period.

Monday, 24th

The Lucksmiths release their new album Naturaliste instores on Monday April 7 out through Candle Records. The new album, which is their 6th studio album and first in 2 years, marks the tenth year of the band's existence. The band will be embarking on a huge Australian tour kicking off in April and winding up in June before heading overseas later in the year. The national support will be Rob Clarkson performing solo for the first time in 7 years and playing tracks off his new compilation 'Shirts & Skins'. Further details »

Katalyst hit the road during early March and through out April as the opening support on the Ben Harper / Jack Johnson national tour, as well as performing their own headline club shows. The headline shows will be to launch Agent Manipulated, the aptly titled remixed and reworked album, out now on Invada Records through Inertia Distribution. Further details »

Coindrop have decided to call it a day and will be playing their last show on Thursday March 27 @ Pony, Melbourne.

Thursday, 20th

Front End Loader play their last shows for a while in late March, with drummer Pete Kostic heading to eastern Europe and beyond with his other projects The Hard-ons and Regurgitator. Shows are Thursday Mar 27 @ Manning Bar, Sydney Uni; Friday Mar 28 @ The Crest, Caringbah; Saturday Mar 29 @ Manly Fisho's. Mid-year will see the band hit the studio to record their next album.

Gerling's new EP Who's Your Daddy? is instores March 24. Coinciding with its release the band will head out on national tour during late March / April with Machine Gun Fellatio. Further details »

Semicolon have acquired national distribution for their debut 6-track EP Teach Yourself To Think through MGM Distribution, with it available Australia-wide from May 12. The Nation Blue hit the road in mid-April to tour with US outfit Hot Water Music. These will be their last shows until October 2003 as the band takes a six-month break to pursue other interests. Further details »

Rockafella hit the road in April and May for a run of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland shows. The tour is in support of their debut self-titled EP out now on High Beam through MGM. Further details »

Fourth Floor Collapse tour Sydney / Newcastle in late March performing Friday March 28 @ Hopetoun w/ 3AM, Ben Fletcher & Shilo and Sunday March 30 @ Salar Couch Cafe, Newcastle. The tour is in support of the single Sun, which is out now.

The Fine Line, a new hip-hop, dub and drum n' bass compilation CD, will be launched over two nights at the Empress on Sunday March 30 and again on the following Saturday April 5. Performing over the two nights will be Curse Ov Dialect, The Cabal, New Pollutants, Spare Change Society, MC A-Love, Argonauts and ESL, all of which appear on the compilation. Cost is $10 per person at the door and copies of The Fine Line will be available for free on the night. The compilation was produced as a collaborative project between the student newspaper of La Trobe University, Rabelais and the La Trobe student radio station SUBFM. Further details »

The Underminers, a new outfit for Justin Hayward formerly of The Dead Salesmen, will be performing a rare live gig on Thursday March 20 at comedy/music night The Speaking Trumpet. The Underminers debut release Let's Get T-Shirts Made is out now through Understate 40 Music.

AgaugeFor have released Black Ball the first single taken from their full length album Ultra Nationalism, due for release April 2003. It was recorded by Ian Pritchett at Sydney's Noise Gate Studio and mastered by Don Bartley at 301 Studios. The title track will be complimented by a film clip produced by Trish Ward and Wayne Reynolds at Halo Productions. The band is giving away the track as a free download from www.mp3.com.au/agaugefor

Monday, 17th

Rocket Science return to Sydney for one show only on Friday April 4 @ Gaelic Club, Surry Hills with special guests City Lights and Riff Random. The Easter weekend sees the band head over to the UK to commence touring with The Vines and The Music, before headlining their own club shows in London. The band have signed a record deal with Eat Sleep Records in the UK and will be releasing a 4 track EP in May featuring tracks from both albums, followed by a UK release of Contact High. Plans are also underway for the band to head to NYC and LA in late May.

The Bunny Is Dead is a two-day Easter mini-festival that will be happening at The Vic on The Park on Friday April 18 and Saturday April 19. The festivities kick off on Good Friday at 1.30pm with DJs spinning discs then bands start at 2.30pm with each band doing a 40 minute set through till midnight. Announced so far is the lineup for Friday which is International Karate (Melbourne), The Rebel Astronauts, Origami (Melbourne), Spod, The Red Sun Band, A Goldstar Secret, Little Sky, The Head, Castings (Newcastle) and Founder. Friday night will also double as the official Sydney launch of Sadness In The Sky #20 which will be on sale on the night.

Frenzal Rhomb release their new album Sans Souci in stores April 11. In support of its release they will embark on an national tour during April and May. Further details »

Thursday, 13th

Crank are now a four piece with the return of original bassist Alan from India and previous bassist Rob Kay now moving onto second guitar. The band also have a new 4 track EP called Sourpuss out on Rabbit Records and in support of which they will be touring Perth in late March. The EP along with 12 other tracks was recorded at the band's new home studio. In other news the band was recently featured on the SBS television programme Whatever Music, for which they recorded two tracks that are to be released on a SBS compilation on Universal Records. Lastly the album Occams Razor was released in Europe this year and the band plan to visit Europe, for the second time, in September / October. Further details »

Area 7 head north for the first time in a while to play a special one off charity show on Saturday March 29 @ The Waterloo, Brisbane. Supports are Kingtide, Wiseacre and Brisbane City All Skas. Entry is $15 on the door, with the majority of which going to The Mater Childrens Hospital Charity.

Gersey and Gelbison team up in April for the Storming The Homeland tour. The tour coincides with the release of Gersey's single For Whom Do You Sail? in stores April 7, taken from the album Storms Dressed As Stars and accompanied by live b-sides from their performance on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic in Los Angeles last November. Likewise Gelbison release their debut album 1704, produced by Ian Ball of Gomez, on April 7. Special guest for the tour is Sydney singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko. Further details »

Machine Translations tour Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Woolongong in April with special guests Disaster Plan. The latest incarnation of the live line-up features songwriter J.Walker providing voice and guitar as well as multiple loops and effects. He is backed by Karen Tua on sampler / keyboards, Kathryn Brownhill on violin, Iain Downie on bass and Kjirsten Robb on drums. Look out for the new video to the track 'Amnesia' out now, with an EP featuring remixes of tunes from the album Happy due soon. Further details »

Wednesday, 12th

Full Scale head out on a national tour during March and April in support of their new EP Black Arrows. The six track release, recorded and mixed by Forrester Savell at Metropolis, is due in stores on March 15 out through Popstar Records. Further details »

Muzzy Pep head out on the road from March 15 until May 24 for an extensive run of east coast dates in support of their new album The Faintest Clue. The eleven track album, three years in the making, is due in stores March 17 out on Nonzero Records. Further details »

Ninetynine return to Sydney for the first time in many years on Saturday March 22 as part of the new night The Shake @ Spanish Club, Level 3, 88 Liverpool St. Supports will be The Rebel Astronauts with their new three piece lineup. Dates in other Australian cities are to follow. The band released their fourth album The Process on Trifekta Records late last year and have recently been touring Japan and Europe.

David Bridie releases his second album Hotel Radio on April 7. The album was produced over a six month period with long-term collaborators Phil Wales and Chris Scallen, and Nick Littlemore of Pnau co-producing. Special guests on the album include Dave Mason (The Reels), Amanda Brown (The Go Betweens) and Katie Noonan (george) amongst others.

Squipplepippy have decided to call it a day and will play one final show on Friday March 28 @ The Alley Bar, Brisbane. Supporting the Brisbane instrumental quartet will be special guests Tonjip and Adlerseri.

Iron On have finished recording their debut EP, tentatively titled The Understudy, due for a May release on the band's own label Ruth Street. The five song EP was recorded over two weeks with Bryce Moorhead. In other news the band is touring Melbourne late March, they play Friday Mar 21 @ Great Britain Hotel w/ The New Estate & Sinking Citizenship and Sunday Mar 23 @ Empress Hotel.

Sadness Is In The Sky issue no 20 is now available in stores, and is accompanied by a 13 track compilation. Inside is interviews with At Sea, Adam Said Galore, Mick Turner, The Hired Guns and many more. Tuesday, 11th

The Brown Hornet have expanded their original four piece lineup with the addition of sax, trumpet and trombone. The first confirmed gig showcasing this new lineup is on Saturday April 5 @ Evelyn Hotel. In other news the band have a double album ready to release around May.

Cassette head north for their first Sydney show on the back of their EP Nothing To Do on Saturday March 15 @ The Spanish Club joining Screamfeeder for the new indie rock night The Shake. The three piece are originally from New Zealand but have been based in Melbourne since May 2001. The EP Nothing To Do, which was originally recorded and released in New Zealand as Emo, is out now on In-Fidelity Recordings.

Saturday, 8th

After The Fall tour Melbourne and Adelaide in late March. In Melbourne they play Thursday Mar 27 @ Goo, Metro Night Club w/ Blueline Medic & STR; Friday Mar 28 @ Tote Hotel w/ Antiskeptic, STR & Horsell Common; Saturday Mar 29 @ Esplanade Hotel front bar for a free show. Then Sunday Mar 28 in Adelaide for an all ages show @ Enigma Bar w/ Antiskeptic and STR. Their CD EP As Far As Thoughts Can Reach is out now on Resist Records.

Frost play an all ages on Friday March 14 @ EV's Croydon joining Bugdust, Tiltmeter, Gorilla Grin (cd launch) and Extra Virgin. Doors open 6:30 till 11pm and entry is $7.

george head into the studio in late July to record the follow-up to their album of last year. Overseeing the recording, scheduled to take about three months, will be UK producer Mark Wallis (Travis, Pauk Kelly, The Go-Betweens). In other news the band return to the UK in April performing Sat Apr 5 @ King Tuts, Glasgow; Sun Apr 6 @ Village, Dublin; Thur Apr 10 @ Shepherds Bush Empire, London.

Gyroscope have signed to Festival Mushroom Records and will be releasing a 6 track EP titled Midnight Express on said label in late May. The four piece formed in Perth in 1997 and more recent tour supports have included Jimmy Eat World, Millencolin, Magic Dirt, Guttermouth, Motor Ace, Unwritten Law and 28 Days.

Thursday, 6th

The Hard-Ons release their new album Very Exciting instores on March 17. In support of the release the band will head out on the road for an east coast tour kicking off March 20 and winding up April 12, special guests at all shows except Newcastle is Gazoonga Attack. The Decembers, a Melbourne guitar pop act, will make their debut appearance on Thursday March 13 as special music guests at The Speaking Trumpet @ retro cafe, 417 Brunswick St, Fitzroy. The group's first ever released song features on the Shake Yer Popboomerang compilation CD out now through Popboomerang Records.

Genshen are currently on the road undertaking an east coast tour with Genevieve Maynard. Winding up in late March the tour covers an intensive program of metropolitan and regional centres in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. The group is currently gaining attention from JJJ with the track 'Nothing Quite Like This' on high rotation and have sold out first pressing of their debut EP Someplace Else. Further details »

Tuesday, 4th

Seascapes of the Interior launch their debut album All Safe, All Well over several dates in late March. They play Friday Mar 21 @ The Rose, Torquay; Saturday Mar 22 @ The Woodbin Theatre, Geelong; Saturday Mar 29 @ The Great Britain Hotel, Richmond with special guest Laura Jean. On all nights performance artist/poet Scott Welsh of Real Fiction and a slide and film show will accompany them.

Rockafella debut self-titled CD EP is out now on High Beam through MGM. The Wollongong five piece recorded the four track EP live in the studio in late 2002.

Charles Foster Kane have completed work on their self-titled 5 track EP and it is due for release April 14 on Funk Folk Records. The track 'Breathe' will be aired on the radio from March 24 and will be accompanied by a music video.

The Null Set launch Silver Ring, their debut 6 track demo, on Saturday March 15 @ Green Square Hotel, Zetland. Assisting with the launch will be Kuybyshev and Archie and the Power Converters. The demo was recorded live to two-track at various locations in Glebe in January of this year. The band formed around 2002, and were previously a three piece known as The Radio Shadow.

Further tour the United Kingdom from April 3 to 15. The tour is in support of Fierce Panda releasing their music in the UK, with Romance available as a limited edition 7-inch single and the album Punk Rock Vampires due for release there on March 31. Before that happens they play a handful shows with a run of Melbourne dates on Fri Mar 7 @ Revolver, Sat Mar 8 @ Good Morning Captain, Sun Mar 9 @ The Tote and then it's one last show in Sydney on Saturday March @ 15 Annandale Hotel before heading overseas. Spod heads into the studio during the month of March to record with producer Jonboyrock (Further, Decoder Ring, Sea Life Park). Upcoming Spod shows are Saturday March 15 @ Space 3, cnr Regent & Cleveland St with The Emergency and Friday March 21 @ Gaelic Club supporting Trans Am and Decoder Ring.

The Wells Collective, a new project for Darren of The Sound Platform, head into the studio in March to record a 10 song album entitled Along Sydon Drive with John Watson producing. Guests on the album will include Kirsty Stegwazi (The Bites), Mike Noga (The Soldiers) and Mick Ruff (Disaster Plan). The album is set for release in June.

Rock Against the War on Iraq is happening Thursday March 6 @ Roma Room, Metro Theatre with performances by The Bernie Hayes Quartet, J. Walker (Machine Translations), Half Miler, Fragile, Tom Morgan, Leticia Nischang and Kuybyshev. Doors open 7:30pm and entry is $12 with all profits going to the Walk Against the War Coalition to continue the campaign against the war.

Monday, 3rd

Green Rock 2 is happening on Friday March 14 @ The Annandale with The Lucksmiths, Dapplied Cities Fly, Stiff Gins and Women of Troy performing on the night. The Green Rock concerts are organised by The Greens to raise funds and awareness for selected community and youth focused, non-profit organisations, with this particular concert raising money for the Tranby Aboriginal College.

The Lucksmiths celebrate the milestone of their 10 year anniversary on Wednesday April 2 @ The Evelyn Hotel, Fitzroy. Joining them on night will be The Steinbecks and Droplets. The show is is exactly ten years to the day when the band first appeared on the stage at The Evelyn Hotel supporting The Sugargliders, who would later become The Steinbecks. In other news their forthcoming studio album Naturaliste is due in stores April 7, followed by a national tour in May.

Minor Ache will be making their debut performance on Sunday March 9 @ Rob Roy Hotel supporting Adam Said Galore. Minor Ache are Rob and Marty formerly of Perth band Braving the Seabed and Marcus of By Ferry or Steamer.

Golden Rough launch their new EP Slippery Slope on Thursday March 6 @ Hopetoun Hotel, Surry Hills. Joining them will be special guests Even in acoustic mode. Shortly after the band head over to the US to perform at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas.
